About

I’m Dan and this is my blog. I am an accountant. I build software for other accountants. Our software makes the lives of auditors less painful. I do this because I was tricked into thinking that working for a “Big 4″ accounting firm was a good career move coming out of college. It wasn’t, it sucked.  So, I left… and started my own CPA firm with two partners. It was much better, but not great. Our focus on making money as quickly as possible led to smaller versions of the same problems. Still doing work the hard way, still using bullshit corporate language, still feeding employees a line of crap on why working at our firm was so fantastic, etc. Fortunately, along the way (and after some very difficult recessionary times) I did realize that being an auditor or accountant didn’t mean it has to be this way. Now we’re working on changing that.

We build software that eliminates meetings, slashes overhead, and makes it so the auditor can go home earlier. No games, no politics, no bullshit… just getting work done and going home earlier. This blog takes the same approach to the rest of life. It is an experimental approach to organizational, societal, political, and lifestyle design. We’ll see where it goes…
